A Coach, A Captain, and A Conversation

(From Matt Kenner at Inside Lacrosse)

We are excited to bring you a new chapter to IL's ever-expanding family of podcasts. York coach Brandon Childs and Ryan Cassidy of the Texas Lacrosse News Podcast will be sharing a monthly conversation on Inside Lacrosse in "A Coach, A Captain and a Conversation."

This is particularly exciting for me, as I've followed the York program develop into a rising DIII power and profiled Childs and the team's growth last spring.

It's fitting that Childs and Cassidy reconnect for this podcast. In that story, when having a conversation about building a culture, Childs pointed to Cassidy as a key part of that. Cassidy, a Texas native, played for Childs at Eastern University and went with him to York. He was an example for players who weren't aware of Childs' style and expectations.

“When it was cold at February practice, there were guys on the team waiting to see what Ryan was going to wear before practice,” Childs recalled.

The debut episode talks about a topic pertinent to this time of year: Selecting a captain.

Should you even select a captain at all? How about multiple captains? And, what does a captain do? Childs shares his philosophy with his former captain, and he discusses the book "The Captain Class" by Sam Walker and other books that shaped his philosophy.
